2016 Monaco Yacht Show Preview: A Posh Primer
The 2016 Monaco Yacht Show, featuring 40 new launches, 125 superyachts, and 580 exhibitors, is about to raise the curtain on an estimated $2.7 billion worth of yachts. The show will run from Sept. 28 through Oct. 1, wrapping the four days with notable private social events on both ends of the schedule. New this year will be a prestige car exhibition zone, an app to assist with locations and services, and an easily navigated new website.
The Prestige Car Exhibition Zone
Responding to interest from attendees, a carefully curated list of ten luxury cars will be on display in the Prestige Car Exhibition Zone. Manufacturers include Rolls Royce, who will exhibit the Dawn, Tesla which will bring the Model S P90D, Lamorghini showing the Huracan LP 610-4 Spyder, and Centigon armored car specialist’s presentation of its Range Rover Autobiography and Mercedes Benz S550. The Monaco Luxury Group will display models from Bentley, McLaren, and Ferrari, joined by UpperWish, an Italian car manufacturer developing a revolutionary new business class concept vehicle.
The area will allow for scheduling downtown test drives in addition to enjoying a beverage at the indoor lounge or a snack from the catering service. The car exhibition zone is located on Quai Rainier III, lined up next to the largest of the yachts in the show.

Three workshops detailing the finer points of yacht ownership offer unbiased information all prospective buyers would be wise to attend. Topics include a Charter Workshop and its advantages prior to purchasing a yacht, a Purchase and Finance Workshop exploring selection, financing, and legal benefits of owning a yacht, and a Management Workshop that addresses crew and yacht management, refit, insurance, and berthing issues.

The Upper Deck Lounge: Elegant VIP Retreat

Open from 10 am to 6:30 pm, with restaurant hours beginning at 12 pm, the day closes with a Lanson Champagne and soft drink bar. Offering a privileged sunset view prior to the evening’s activities, guests can toast to a fine day at the show before heading to invitation only fêtes on board yachts or at the finest hotels in the Principality.

A dedicated Monaco Yacht Show app is available this year to guide your every step, helping locate yachts, displays, and meeting points quickly and easily with either android or iOS devices. Go to Google Play or the Apple Store to download the official app, distinctively displaying the MYS logo and the white chiffon-clad striding model on a blue background.

If you need a sports screen with your pour, it’s Slammers. A posh, pre-dinner sip? Head to the Blue Gin Bar in the Monte-Carlo Bay Hotel. The Monaco Yacht Show Gala opens the four-day event on Sept. 27, turning the Salle Belle Epoque in the Hôtel Hermitage into a yachting lifestyle haven.
