BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage R The Perfect Fusion of Driver and Machine

BMW has always been a manufacturer that produces absolutely brilliant racing cars. Their expertise in the field has opened them up to become one of the leaders in motorsports. The 3.0 CSL Hommage R is a prime example of how BMW can create a racer focused vehicle that has performance as a priority.

The design of the car has been created with a purpose; motorsport was kept constant throughout the exterior of the car. The body has been stretched to incorporate air deflectors, flared wheel arches, and a racing spoiler all in tune with the original successful racing machine of 1975. The colors of BMW’s racing wing accent the car perfectly, the M color package compliments the cars overall racing personality. An interesting feature is the inclusion on the exterior of the car is the number 25; this represents the number of successes of the BMW 3.0 CSL in 1975. Carbon fiber is exposed at various points in the car to showcase BMW’s commitment to weight saving. The use of LED lighting throughout the car including both front and rear headlights are also evident making the car feel more up to date with today’s design demands.

The structure of the car has seen the extensive use of lightweight materials to increase the overall handling and performance of the car. The roll cage is made out of carbon fiber and has been integrated into the roof and side sections of the car. The suspension has been designed to keep the car as flat as possible through corners in order to minimize the body roll and absorb bumps in the track.

The interior of the 3.0 CSL Hommage R is prominently driver focused. The driver was given a higher level of attention which includes the gear that the driver wears while racing the vehicle. The helmet visor assumes the functions of the display and projects information according the situation that driver is facing, analytics such as speed, gear engaged and engine revs are displayed. Through this a minimalist approach was used in the interior dash of the car, the need for a classical display system was not required. Surprisingly the only “comfort” amenity that was given to the driver is two vents placed on either side of the steering column that pump fresh air inside the cabin at an ambient temperature. Other race car features such as outlet nozzles for the fire extinguishers are also present.

The BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage R is a masterpiece of engineering ability, the perfect way to honor the original predecessor.
