Delta Announces High Performance Motor Yacht Project 174046

From their Seattle yard, Delta Yachts lifted the secrecy enveloping recent projects with the announcement of a U.S. built 53m/174′ performance motor yacht. Engaging an aluminum hull with a composite superstructure, the combination proved an important factor for the owner, in addition to Delta’s family-style business model. The scale model of the project was on display in Delta’s booth at the recent Ft. Lauderdale International Boat Show.

Looking for a suitable craft to cruise the blue waters and shallow bays of the Bahamas and the Caribbean with family, the owners found favor with Delta’s Chief Naval Architect Jay Miner’s Silver Shalis and interior design work from Jonathan Quinn Barnett. Working together to develop an exterior design with a sleek profile and expansive glazing for an unobstructed view, computer modeling enabled more effective spatial design of guest spaces. The yacht will have a 2.3m/7’7″ draft with improved power efficiency and seakeeping, larger tank capacity enabling longer range, and increased accommodation spaces than comparable builds.

The proven hull design defines the long, low profile with elegance and the suggestion of speed, backed up by twin MTU 16V 4000M 73L engines each boasting 3,680 BHP and long range capability ensured by a 24,900 USG fuel capacity. A retractable stern thruster assists by folding into the hull to provide a smooth surface, reducing drag. Additionally, Delta met acoustic challenges of such a powerful yacht, hushing the noise and vibration through technology and quality construction.

The all glass state-of-the-art touchscreen console on the bridge deck reinforces the elevated technology on board, engineered with input from Project 174046’s experienced Captain Michael Heath to ensure critically important decisions were thoroughly examined and perfected to ensure the owners’ enjoyment of the yacht in every regard.

A pioneer in the combination of metal hulls with composite superstructures, Delta has earned a reputation as the builder of seaworthy, high quality vessels embracing innovation and aesthetics, delivering traditional craftsmanship that beautifully reflects owners’ visions.
