Eye of the Storm: Dutch Yacht X-65 Delivers Smooth Ride
Embracing their RED philosophy — remarkable, efficient, and Dutch –Storm Yachts’ X-65 is riding a design wave with some impressive company. Boasting a full displacement hull form previously only seen before on Heesen’s Galactica Star, the X-65 underscores its design efficiency resulting in low fuel consumption, a smooth ride, and large interior volume.
Van Oossanen Naval Architects created this distinctive design to minimize swell and exhaust noise. Adding to that, an efficient underwater body design is complemented by two Volvo D-13 engines with IPS 150 drives on steerable pod unit with optional counter-rotating props. Comparison to similar installed power allows 15 percent more cruising speed, taking the X-65 up to her top run at 24 kts.
Interiors designed by Frank Laupman of Omega Architects are clean and inviting, customizable in layout, finish, woods, carpets, and upholstery, as well as propulsion. Smart functions, like sliding recliners built into the sofa and intelligent galley design contribute to the “aha” moment acknowledging the X-65’s superiority.
Displaying high quality, up-to-Dutch finishing standards and attention to detail, the X-65 promises not only surprising linear acceleration and comfort, but long term resale value in a distinctive profile. It will be hard to turn away, so go ahead. Have a nice, long look.
