Wider Goes Long: The 150-foot Genesi
Initially, the first transformable designs produced by Wider Yachts were seen as novelties, but they were so well crafted, so smartly designed, and so absolutely jaw dropping, their success has gone from amusement to must-have in five short years with the launch of the Wider 150, Genesi. Opening up like a Swiss Army Knife, showing off not only form but function, and with hybrid propulsion, Genesi knows she is something special.
The light construction translates to more power with less consumption in this semi-displacement hull with a difference. Genesi boasts many features seen only on yachts of much larger size, like the wet launching system for the 32 ft tender. But, as is always the case with a Wider Yacht, there’s more. When the tender leaves the garage, the vacated space opens up a large, glorious, seven-meter saltwater pool. Then, as Genesi spreads her wings to the sides, she reveals the largest beach club imaginable at 1000 square feet. Beautifully lit, and stylishly designed, this is chic like no one has ever done it before.
Exterior Designer Fulvio De Simoni sculpted Genesi carefully, working with Wider’s engineering and naval architecture group, giving the yacht many secrets that continue to surprise and delight beyond her sleek profile. The owner’s apartment, forward of the main deck salon, is 807 square feet/75 square meters of bliss, with a 57 square foot/5.3 square meter terrace that folds out to starboard, and indulgent panoramic views that never get old. The owner’s space can be split into two cabins employing sliding doors, should the need arise. Additional cabins include four en suite, two VIP, and two standard cabins with Pullman berths.
The crew area has four twin cabins, a captain’s cabin located next to the wheelhouse, and a crew mess with plenty of space to work. Access to the engine room is through a central corridor, furthest from guest quarters. The upper deck sky lounge is generous, creating spaces for sunning, dining, and a saloon with sliding glass doors that move to make it versatile with either an indoor or outdoor feel, depending on mood and weather. A hidden 1-car garage on the bow makes for easy switches from sea to land. A full bar, BBQ, spa, and helipad that allows landing even when in motion add to the list of interesting features.
Floor-to-ceiling windows wash the interiors with sunlight while showing off the sea in beautiful continuity. Uncomplicated, elegant interiors make the most of leather and furnishings from Poltrona Frau, a stylish Italian furniture house that has been producing beautiful products for more than 100 years.
Cruising at 13 kts, Genesi can roam 2,500 nm, upping to 4,700 at 10 kts, with a maximum speed of 14.1 kts. In Zero Emission Mode using only the lithium polymer batteries for power, a running speed of 5 kts makes her very quiet. Employing the four inline diesel generators, Genesi can run efficiently at higher speeds with reduced fuel consumption.
A stunning, versatile yacht, Genesi is the largest to come out of Wider’s Ancona shipyard to date. Close on her heels, the Wider 165 is under construction. Wider Yachts founder Tilli Antonelli and the in-house design team are quite busy creating another uncompromising vessel with multi-purpose systems that create a synergy of excitement. Equipped with a submersible for underwater exploration, the 165 is expected to raise just as many eyebrows as the 150, with fold out platforms, balcony, interior seawater pool, diesel-electric propulsion, and an ever increasing opportunity for guests to interact with the sea in exquisite comfort and luxury.
