Inside The New Billionaire-backed Private Members’ Club
Devonshire Club, a private members’ club due to open in May 2016, is backed by billionaire Tory peer Lord Ashcroft and co-founded by the brains behind The Upstairs Club at L’Escargot in Soho and Home House in Marylebone.
“The only thing we want is not too many bores,” says Brian Clivaz of his ambitious new venture in the City of London: the Devonshire Club. Clivaz, the brains behind The Upstairs Club at L’Escargot in Soho, Home House in Marylebone and The Arts Club in Mayfair, says Devonshire Club should be ready to open in May. It will be thehotly anticipated addition to London’s private club scene.
The entire project has cost £25 million, comprising an entire seven-floor block of two Grade*-II listed buildings, various restaurants, bars, a spa, and 68 bedrooms in London’s Devonshire Square. It has been described as a little bit of Charles Rennie Mackintosh with a touch of Piet Mondrian, with plenty of marble, Murano glass, mid-century furniture and monochrome. The result should be spectacular, reckons Clivaz
