The car has been made with the utmost precision and attention to detail, even more so after McLaren produced the Spider version of the 12C.

The styling of the car has been followed on through the previous hard top, which has proved to be a successful design with the automotive market. The Spider now features a fully automatic two-piece Retractable Hard Top that can be raised or lowered in less than 17 seconds and on the move at speeds up to 30 km/h. The car has added features regarding the hard top such as the ability to retract the rear wind deflector when the top is up to allow more engine noise in the cabin for a different experience.

The attention to detail following the conversion of the car into a convertible has been catered to very effectively such as the audio entertainment system which detects whether the roof is up or down and automatically sets the speakers to compensate for the extra noise if the roof is down.

The 12C Spider was designed for a specific purpose, to be an ergonomic supercar. The performance of the 12C is unparalleled in the current market line up. The shell is created through a delicate process using Carbon Fiber which has kept the weight of the entire car low while not sacrificing structural soundness. This allows the car to handle very well at high speeds without being weighed down by heavy strengthening beams.

Active aerodynamics have also been carried forward from the hard top 12C of including the hydraulic air brake which is raised in order to bring the speed of the car down drastically when required.

The power unit that propels the 12C Spider is a 3.8-liter V8 twin turbo that produces nearly 616 horsepower and 600 Nm of torque. The engines power is transferred to the rear wheels through a 7 speed dual clutch SSG gearbox which results in a 0-60mph time of 3.1 seconds.

The 12C Spider in many ways can be considered an improvement upon what was nearly perfection in the 12C hardtop in retrospect of science and engineering in the automotive field. The retail price of the 12C Spider starts at $298,480.
