Wider 150 Genesi: Always Breathtaking, Yet Never Enough
If James Bond were to design his own multi-faceted escape vessel, nested with the all the comforts of a luxurious penthouse suite, Tilli Antonilli might offer a suggestion at the ready. The Wider 150 Genesi, brainchild of Antonilli’s Italian yacht building group Wider Yachts, fits the profile of an international sophisticate like a glove. Displaying an elegant simplicity of line, dramatic versatility of function, meticulous attention to detail, plus a few hidden surprises tucked into its decks, the 150 is the very thing for those who value down time and privacy while tucked effortlessly into luxury’s contented lap.
Antonilli came to Wider as CEO and founder, packing a boatload of more than 25 years of experience as founder and president of Pershing Yachts. Starting up the Wider machine in 2010, Antonilli surrounded himself with talent intent on continuing their work with this passionate project, following Antonilli’s “innovate, develop, and renew” philosophy for building a revolutionary type of yacht. By all accounts, the plan is working well. Six years into the commitment, the results are impressive, and the Wider 150 is stunning.
Watch What Happens …
A number of very cool things on this yacht undergo delightful transformations at the simple touch of a button. The sea terrace opens up off the owner’s suite, presenting the opportunity to enjoy a glorious morning brunch or a private afternoon cocktail. The iBridge station unfolds to deliver a clutch of technology via screens and panels, wrapping the captain in all of the details required for safe passage while permitting excellent visibility. The diesel electric power system moves from silently running under lithium polymer batteries in Zero Emission Mode, to one or more of the four inline diesel generators, or a combination of thereof. Expanses of glass open to join interior salons with exterior decks, expanding spaces to celebrate a big life at sea. A hatch to the private foredeck lounge rises to invite panoramic views from a posh sofa protected by a hard top bimini. And that’s not all.
The Beach Club
Perhaps the most astonishing transformation takes place on the lower level, where beach club wings, one to port and one to starboard, spread wide to open up the 90-meter space surrounding the four-meter seawater pool. The pool, which transforms to a floating launch for the perfectly matched Wider 32 rigid tender, is beautifully lit and appointed, sparkling with sunlight from all the open air exposure by day, and in charming LED fashion by night. A devastatingly romantic yacht, the 150 is more than just a quick change artist.
The Owner’s Suite and Guest Cabins
Showing off a 7-foot 2-inch ceiling hovering over 850 square feet of full beam space on the main deck, the owner’s cabin bedroom, en suite bath, dual walk in closets, and office rival those of any land-based option. The bath features an inviting scoop of oak posing as a soaking tub, alongside rich marble and glass surfaces. The owner’s suite space can be separated by sliding doors, creating two spaces should accommodations suggest. On the lower deck, two VIP cabins and two standard cabins, one of which contains a Pullman berth for a child, are equally kitted out with luxurious textures and materials. In all, she accommodates 10 + 1 guests in 5 cabins.
The Sun Deck and Sky Lounge
A Jacuzzi, full bar, sofas, lounges, tables, and BBQ make this panoramic view a favorite meeting spot for guests. Glass bulwarks preserve the view, also protecting against wind. A removable awning provides shade upon request. The sky lounge just below the sun deck opens its doors aft, port, and starboard, embracing the sea with gusto for a refreshing entertainment space that easily accommodates a crowd.
Genesi gracefully moves her 152’2″ hull through the water at a 14 knot clip, cruises at 13, has an ecological speed at 10, and Zero Emission speed of 5, delivering 2,000 nm, 2,500 nm, 4,700 nm, and up to 30 nm, respectively. She is equipped with two 531 kW electric motors, four 350 kW gen sets, and a 544 kWh battery pack. The hull, built with 5083 aluminum, is exceptionally strong, and displays a high resistance to corrosion by seawater or chemicals.
Antonilli tagged the Wider brand with the “never enough” philosophy, living up to it with every detail in the planning of the Wider 165, due to launch in January of 2017 for May delivery. Expect some tweaks and improvements to the already incredible 32 and 42 Express Cruisers as well, because … you know … it’s just never enough.
P.S.: While the 150 is not on display at FLIBS, look for the sporty “Amalfi zest” yellow Wider 32 Express and Wider 42 Express shuttling VIP guests around the show. Available for sea trials, take advantage of boat show pricing to call one of these Widers your own.
